Before you go and replace your Girard RV Awning--or before you even purchase!--it’s good to know what you can do to help maintain your awning so it lasts as long as it can. There are a few things to keep in mind when maintaining your awnings such as fabric, type of awning and the age.
The first thing you need to know is what type of awning you’re maintaining. Is it a window or door awning? Or is it a slide awning? Or is it a patio awning to sit and relax under? Each awning serves a different purpose and each one is a different size. Also, each awning is made out of different material, which is what the next thing you need to know is: What material is your awning made out of?
The material your awning is made from will really help to determine how you maintain your Girard RV Awning. Acrylic and vinyl are the most common types of material used to make an awning. Acrylic materials are not waterproof but will dry after a few hours. They also allow air to circulate. Vinyl material can easily collect dirt and dust and grow mildew.
Make sure you clean your awnings before you roll them up for storage for an extended amount of time. Allow them to dry completely--this will help prevent mold and mildew! After you open them again, a quick spray with a hose is not a bad idea, especially if they were closed for a long time.
You can also buy cleaners for the type of material! This will really help to extend the life of your awnings. Again--make sure they are dry before you roll them up!
Also, consider purchasing a warranty for your awning--you never know what crazy things can happen!
Good luck and happy camping!
