Essentials to Prepare Ahead of Time
Sometimes having a few things prepared ahead of time is essential, other times it’s just handy. If you plan on having a dinner party with some friends, preparing as much as you can ahead of time is important; that way you have everything you need, where and when you need it, rather than scrambling at the last minute to get everything ready. Here are a few tips and tricks for getting ingredients prepped and ready to go for when you are!
- Make marinades and spice rubs ahead of time. You can have a few different kinds made and ready to go in your refrigerator and spice cabinet. Then, when you need them, you can just grab your marinade or spice and your item to be flavored, mix it up and set it aside for a few hours to get ready for cooking!
- Salad dressings are always good to have ready and on hand. A lot of premade salad dressings you buy from the store are good—but homemade ones are just so much tastier! Because most of them are oil and vinegar based, they will last as long as they are kept refrigerated.
- Precut and/or clean your vegetables when you buy them, so you don’t have to worry about it when cooking or grabbing a quick snack. You can also do this with fruits, like melon and pineapple so you can just grab and go!
- Label and date left overs and items you freeze. This way, you will know how long something has been stored for and you can easily rotate your stock and use things up first before you open up something new. This includes dressings, marinades and spice mixes—then you aren’t trying to figure out which is which!
Following these few, simple tips will help you to be more efficient and organized.
