Caramel Cinnamon French Toast Bake

 

French toast is a breakfast classic and such a nice change from pancakes. There are lots of different ways to make French toast, too. You can do the traditional dip it in the eggs and fry it on a pan, or you can bake it, which is my personal favorite. It’s almost more like a bread pudding this way, which, lets face it, is sinfully good. Try out this easy to make, prep ahead crème brule French toast bake!

Caramel Cinnamon French Toast Bake

Yield: 6-8 servings

Ingredients:

1 loaf thick cut brioche or challah

½ cup butter

1 cup brown sugar

8 eggs

1 c whole milk

1 ½ c heavy cream

2 tbsp vanilla extract

1 tbsp ground cinnamon

¼ tsp salt

Equipment:

Sauce pan

Glass 9x13 pan

Whisk

Rubber spatula

In a sauce pan, melt the butter and add the sugar and 2 tsp vanilla. Allow sugar to melt into a caramel like consistency—the granules should be almost completely dissolved. Spread this mixture into the bottom of the glass pan. Cube the bread into large chunks and spread across the pan in as even a layer as you can get.

Whisk the eggs, cream, milk, vanilla and salt together in a bowl. At this point, you can save the mixture and the bread (covered tightly) until you are ready to bake it in the morning.

Pour the egg mixture over top of the bread and allow it to soak in. Bake at 350F until golden on top and fluffy, about 30-45 minutes. Cut and serve!
